Type of Moving Services
There are basically 3 levels of moving services available. Each type of services has its own costs and benefits. Below is a break-down of the basic type of moving services available.
Full Service Movers
Full service moving companies will pack, load and haul your belongings. This is, by far, the most convenient option available, but it is also by far most expensive option. This option is exactly what it says. Full service movers usually provide all the supplies needed, as well as, packers to pack up and load everything.
U-pack/We-haul
Typically under this program, a trucking company will drop off a semi trailer, or piggy-back (depending on your needs), at your home. It is up to you to pack and load your belongings. When you're done, the trucking company will pickup the trailer, and your belongings will be on the way.
This is a moderately priced option. The price is usually based on the amount of space you occupy on a trailer, and of course distance. With the prices available, it is sometimes cheaper using this program than the complete do-it-yourselfer move. With a complete do-it-yourself job, you'll likely need an extra driver, gas for the vehicles and trucks, rental trucks, and trailers.
Move it yourself
This option may not be feasible for many people, depending on the amount of stuff to move and the distance of the move, but it is also one of the least expensive ways to move. However, don't under-estimate the amount of work involved.
Also, if you have multiple vehicles, boats, ATV's, motorcycles, and other large items, you may find it easier and cheaper to hire a hauling company than to rent trucks, trailers, find extra drivers, etc.
