Moving and Moving Services Introduction
Moving can be a stressful and complex process. There are so many things to think about and so many things to do. Can you afford a full-service mover or moving company? Do you have the time and resources to do it all yourself? Or would something in-between, like a u-pack/we-haul option, work better? Where can you find good moving resources for planning?
One of the first things you need to do when you know you are moving is prepare a plan and figure out the timing of events.
One thing many people under estimate is the sheer amount of work and time involved in a move. The amount of work can vary greatly depending on whether you're a single person living on the ground floor of an apartment that is moving down the street, or a family of 5 moving out of a four bedroom house they've lived in for 10 years and moving across the country.
As many have experienced first hand, it's really quite amazing how much stuff a person can amass in 10 or more years! Not only a lot of "stuff", but:
- dressers, armoires, chests of drawers
- beds
- couches, chairs
- dining room tables
- TV's, stereos, DVD players, VCR's
- dishes, kitchen ware
- washers and dryers
- lawn mower, tools
- boats, motorcycles, ATVs
- and on and on...
Moving doesn't need to be a stressful event. With a little planning, things can go very smoothly. The key is, don't wait until the last minute to plan. Start planning as soon as possible.
The next few pages of this site will take you through some basic checklists and ideas to help you have more less-stressful moving experience.
